In my 2014 book, Preparation Breeds Success, I open with a quote that epitomized the message I tried to convey:

Wooden is an inspiration for me for his simple beliefs and the way in which he lived and taught them. This Ted Talk from 2009 captures John Wooden long after his “success” as a teacher and coach. If you are unfamiliar with Wooden’s work as the head Basketball Coach at UCLA from 1948 to 1975, He coached teams to 10 National Championships in 12 years. During this stretch, the team won 88 consecutive games. This level of success by an NCAA Men’s Basketball Program has never come close to this level of achievement.
